Lamborghini Launches First Hybrid SUV – Why the Urus SE Leaves Rivals Behind

Lamborghini’s latest foray into hybrid luxury SUVs, the Urus SE, marks a thrilling evolution in the automotive world, blending unparalleled supercar power with cutting-edge sustainability. Since the debut of the original Urus in 2018, it has set benchmarks in the performance SUV category, and now, the Urus SE is taking things to a whole new level.

A Legacy of Performance

At first, the notion of a Lamborghini SUV was met with skepticism. However, the Urus quickly silenced critics with its potent 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, launching from 0-100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds. This combination of supercar speed and practicality appealed to a new wave of Lamborghini owners, with around 70% of Urus buyers being first-time customers. By 2021, the Urus became Lamborghini’s fastest-selling model, a title it continues to hold.

The Urus SE: The Hybrid Revolution

In 2024, Lamborghini introduced the Urus SE, the brand’s first plug-in hybrid SUV. This vehicle is part of Lamborghini’s "Direzione Cor Tauri" initiative, which aims to reduce emissions across the brand’s entire lineup by 40% per car by 2030. The Urus SE promises an 80% reduction in CO2 emissions, thanks to its advanced hybrid powertrain—a combination of a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor producing a total of 800 horsepower.

The results are stunning: the Urus SE rockets from 0-100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, reaching 200 km/h in 11.2 seconds, with a top speed of 312 km/h. Not only does the Urus SE deliver jaw-dropping performance, but its 25.9 kWh battery allows for a 60 km range on electric power alone, making it one of the most eco-friendly super SUVs on the market.

A High-Performance SUV that Handles Like a Dream

Lamborghini’s engineers have left no stone unturned when it comes to performance. The Urus SE boasts a highly modified version of the Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform, with dynamic tuning that delivers unmistakable Lamborghini handling. A new electronic torque-vectoring system ensures power is distributed precisely between the front and rear axles, while a reworked rear electronic limited-slip differential enhances cornering capabilities.

Aerodynamically, the Urus SE is a work of art. New additions such as a rear diffuser and an aero lip on the front bumper increase rear downforce by 35%, improving stability at high speeds. The redesign of the underbody and cooling ducts also results in a 15% improvement in engine cooling, making it more efficient than ever.

Innovation Meets Comfort

Though it’s a performance beast, the Urus SE doesn’t compromise on comfort. With drive modes tailored to different terrains—Strada for comfort, Sport and Corsa for track use, and off-road modes like Sabbia (sand), Terra (rock), and Neve (snow)—the Urus SE is as adaptable as it is powerful. Its luxurious interior ensures that even on long drives, the Urus SE feels like a sanctuary. For added convenience, the 12.3-inch touchscreen has been upgraded with 3D graphics, offering a more intuitive experience akin to modern smartphone interfaces.

The Future of Super SUVs

The Urus SE represents a bold step into the future for Lamborghini. With a stunning combination of hybrid technology, exceptional performance, and luxury, it redefines what’s possible in the super SUV category. It may not be the car you take to a racetrack with a baby in the backseat, but it’s the perfect companion for enjoying the journey—whether on the open road or on the city streets of Singapore.

Will you be racing in the Urus SE? With a baby on board, probably not. But as the Italians say, la vita è un viaggio—and this super SUV makes the ride all the more enjoyable.
